The contest is still going strong. Over twenty designs submitted so far. Some are really very good. I followed the advice found online in a writers group to head off to 99designs and run a contest for my book cover. Extremely professional work that is not cut entirely out of stock images that may have been used over and over again. Here are some of the latest designs as of Saturday 16 February.
Of course if you are headed down the traditional path this step is not necessary. From the start I have felt that self publishing was the path I would follow. I have a few control issues about my creative side. I want to control it to the end because after all its my baby from the start. Why would I want to leave the creative floundering and crying over what someone else did to my dream?
I can see editing is going to be an issue. It is not that I cannot take creative criticism of my work, I worry that changes could change what I wanted the reader to get from conversation or descriptions. I know that I am wordy, and I use too many adverbs when less is better. Does that mean I don’t make mistakes and do it any way. Nope. It was taught to me that adverbs are good, and they bring the description to life. That is true unless you over do it and leave the reader lost , wondering what was he looking at?
Editing is going to be a must. That does not mean I have to like it. Does anyone else have these experiences or is it just me?
